The Role Color Has On Healing
The use of color plays a role on our mood and we all respond in various ways to the subconscious connections we make to particular colors. Marketers use color in their advertisements all the time. Colors can attract us to some things while others can cause aversion to them.
Our Body & Mind:
We can see how colors dance together and compliment one another in nature. We can also intentionally integrate colors into our healing practices. Chakras follow the same rainbow patterns we see in nature. Color appears in our foods we get from the earth. And there have been studies showing that eating certain colors can aid in helping to heal ailments in our bodies.
Our mind can find calmness, motivation, inspiration and stimulate many different emotions.
Our bodies receive so many healing elements from nature. If you are interested in learning more about using color for your mind and body healing, you can download this interactive guide from The Healing Power of Color via Dr. Deanna Minich’s Guide Book on Color.
As cited from the Very Well Mind:
Red: Red is used to energize or invigorate a person who might be feeling tired or down. However, red may also trigger people who might already be tense.
Blue: Chromatherapists use blue to try and influence depression and pain. Darker shades of blue are also thought to have sedative properties and may be tried for people who experience insomnia or other sleeping disorders.
Green: Green is the color of nature, and according to chromatherapists, it can help relieve stress and relax a person.
Yellow: Yellow can be used to improve your mood and make you more happy and optimistic.
Orange: Orange, much like yellow, can be used to elicit happy emotions from people. The bright warm color is also thought to be able to stimulate appetite and mental activity.

Color in Art
Color can be used in our art with more intention. We can draw upon specific colors to help us express our thoughts, feelings, emotions and mood within our artwork. dKol has included a variety of ways she integrates color in her art therapy pieces. Working with black, whites and gray can also be another way to pay attention to how light is reflected and it can bring attention to where the shadows lie, especially in photography.
Here at The dKol Project we use photography as a way to tell a non-verbal story of how our thoughts, feelings, emotions and mood can show up for us. Healing from painful memories, traumatic experiences and finding ways to express how these very things have impacted our wellbeing can be extremely difficult and even painful. And art therapy is one way of trying to express ourselves in the healing process. We are fostering a community that represents a safe space to interact with others who have also been touched by these stressors. We need connectedness to help us find a soothing rhythm again to further us on our journeys. So while we may feel alone, we welcome you to lean into this sacred space we have curated for you to find togetherness.
Invitation
The dkol la femme project is a platform created to give a voice to you and your unique struggles by telling your story through art. la femme is where vulnerability meets liberation. What is confidence and empowerment to you? What is VULNERABILITY, and how does it affect you? You, as in the generalized you, the one that isn’t gender specific, or defined by your struggle or labeled by medication. OR maybe you are and want to advocate so your story is heard (insert dKol la femme). At la femme you are allowed to free yourself of the need for perfection. Here you will evoke your self-confidence and take pause so you can reflect on your soul.
