Break Often

A visualization that has often worked well for me when trying to remind myself to “let things be and trust” is envisioning the ebb and flow of the tide. If we get onto a float and ride the rhythm of the tide rolling in and then back out again we may notice there is less resistance than if we are standing in the ocean fighting the intensity of the current.

More recently this idea was expanded to include the breaking of a wave. I read a quote by Scherezade Siobhoan saying to, “Break often-not like porcelain, but like waves.”

I reread this quote repeatedly like a mantra. “Break often-not like porcelain, but like waves. Break often-not like porcelain, but like waves. Break often-not like porcelain, but like waves.”

And tucked underneath that post was a reflection that I didn’t realize I needed to hear.

Waves break freely, without resistance. When you let yourself break with ease, you free yourself from the burden of holding everything together. There’s a deep liberation in surrendering, trusting you’ll regroup and find your path forward again. @witches.of.insta

Did we just receive permission to break? Whether to hit rock bottom or to hover just above bottom where it feels pretty terrible and the fear overtakes your thoughts thinking you’re doomed to hit bottom, again. Stress is inevitable part of the human experience but perhaps this visualization helps us to see that we can call upon our support systems, our coping mechanisms to empower us to spend time making our raft for maybe the first time. And for some of us, rebuilding our rafts to be stronger and more durable to withstand the storms ahead.

What constitutes your float?

I invite you to begin thinking about what your “vessel” consists of. What keeps you afloat both on the stormy days as well as on the sunny & calm ones?

We’re in this together. xo-d
